Sweetener based on erythritol for food, limited use, with sweeteners. 100% NON-GMO. Vegan. Erythritol from European manufacture. Erythritol is a virtually calorie-free, natural and tooth-friendly sugar substitute.

Erythritol is also known under the trade names Sucolin® and SUKRIN®. The sweetness corresponds to about 70% of the sweetening power of sugar. Erythritol crystals look similar to sugars or Xylit. The taste is mildly sweet and resembles the sugar most of all sugar alcohols. Erythritol is slightly soluble. Erythritol is most compatible with all sugar alcohols since it is excreted almost completely unchanged.

It is less suitable for the production of jam because it crystallizes there. For the production of biscuits, the weight fraction of erythritol may not be more than 25%. When mixed with xylitol in the ratio 1: 1, erythritol is very suitable for baking.

In Japan erythritol has been used since 1990 in many foods and medicines. Diabetics, in particular, value their absolutely blood-sugar-neutral properties. In the United States, erythritol was approved in 1997, while in the EU it was permitted to use food as a foodstuff in 2006.

Notes: In contrast to most other sugars, erythritol is hardly hygroscopic, so it does not attract moisture. This makes its storage very simple. It causes the digestion problems occurring even at relatively low doses (<1 g / kg of body weight) at very high doses (> 2 g / kg body weight) of other sugar alcohols. Can have a laxative effect if consumed to excess.
